Welcome baby Arabella! Adorable Arabella decided she was ready to see Mommy and Daddy a little earlier than planned but this bundle of joy is spunky! At 2 weeks old, she is quite a strong little princess! Just a quick sneakpeek for Mommy Stefania and Daddy Nate before I hit the road for Atlanta...more to come!

Lots of volunteering with the Pop Warner program. My son's team won their playoff game and will be playing in the City Championship next week. In the meantime, tomorrow, our squad is competing at the City Cheer Championship tomorrow. I squeezed this shoot in last weekend after football games and want to share a quick sneekpeak for this very super special family...Beware: Super duper cute factor!

As a Mom of a daughter who will soon enter the halls of high school, this shoot proves how quickly time flies. I remember Lindsay when she was in elementary school and now, here I am, honored to do her Senior photo shoot. Lindsay has set her sights forward to college with her eyes on the prize: collegiate basketball. My family wishes her the best on her journeys and hopes she has as awesome Senior year! Thanks for OFFICIALLY being my first ever senior photo shoot!
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-53404378492374176112011-07-13T11:44:00.000-04:002011-07-13T11:44:31.434-04:00Adorable Ashley
I was so flattered by my friend's request to do a photo session for her
daughter. I've known Ashley for so long and watching her grow into a
beautiful young lady has been awesome! Here's a quick sneak peek of a
few of the photos we made yesterday...Thanks for calling on me for your

A photo I made and Erik and I together at the TweetUp Party

So, I did it. Drove to Orlando, checked into the Red Roof Inn dive of a hotel (gross! But I didn't know...I was busy running around! Drop luggage and run!) and start my Photoshop World Experience with some yummy sushi. Kathy asks me to meet at the Rosen and to bring my speedlights. Erik wants ME to help him with gear?!
I have to admit, I walked in and was instantly starstruck. You have to understand, I've been learning from a lot of these people over the past year and daily, weekly, pocasts, webs, etc...! KelbyTV has taught me a ton! I walk in and the whole crew and many others whom I've learned from are standing in the lobby. I'm not starstruck (gulp) I'm on a mission to get these speedlights to Erik.
Erik, as always the gentleman waves me over and I immediately get to work. Working with Krysten Marlette to get some gelled strobes working to make Erik's vision come alive. After some tweaking, the party is on and the photoshoot begins. Erik Valind is snapping away using modifiers from Westcott and everyone's having a great time! He's shooting tethered while Adobe Master David Rogers is working his magic getting them instantly uploaded to Flickr.
THEN, THEN I meet the one and only Robert Vanelli. This guy is a TRIP! He's a bundle of energy, really entertaining and friendly as heck!. Soon we're flexing muscles for the camera along with my good friend Kathy Porupski. Erik is making fun photos of us. It was hilarious!

Kathy Porupski, Robert Vanelli and I flexing our musculars!

Mingling with the others at the party, I meet a ton of new people and get a chance to talk to others whom I've learned from via our WWW and then hanging out with Andy, and Casie. It was awesome! I see my new friend Rick Sammon, whom I had met 2 days before. And am introduced to Rob Knight. Now, with Rob and Krysten and their tats, Rick runs upstairs to grab his 'tats'. And we get some fun snapshots of that. I then learn that Rick and Rob will be doing a workshop in Atlanta and another in Costa Rica. Oh how I'd love to go!

I photobombed...bad girl. Matt Kloskowski and RC Concepcion, host on KelbyTV and Instructor Extraordinaires!

So as the evening is moving right along, Erik is participating in a taping of DtownTV Everyone is having fun and Erik wants to make one more photo. I don't know how the idea came up but turns out, I'm going to be a part of that last photo he wants to make. I'm a cheerleading coach, we've got a pool, we've got strobes and modifiers...It's a splash shot. With Rob and Krysten acting as my bases, I finish the night getting tossed in the pool.
Frank Doorhof, a photographer and 1st year instructor at Photoshop World shot this video. It was fun!
Even if I don't get a pass to Photoshop World, this alone was awesome!

The front grille of my car...sadlly.

It all started with something similar to this...a free pass to the Photoshop Expo Floor. Asked around to a few of my local friends about going and mentioned it to my friend Kathy in Tampa who's the President of the Tampa Strobist and Photoshop Collective Meetup Group. She immediately says that I must go to the NAPP TweetUp Party planned for the night before the official Conference began. As I'm mulling over this decision, she's on the phone with Erik Valind telling him I'm considering going. I met Erik almost a year ago at a workshop he and Michael Thompson of lightenupandshoot.com did together in Tampa (the same time I met Kathy). They were both awarded Westcott Top Pro honors for their photographs using lighting modifiers made by Westcott. Back to the story, Kathy calls me and says that Erik is DMing the details to me via twitter. Sure enough, he's really excited about the event which he's shooting and had some great plans and that I really should go. This party is a free event. Why not go? I'll see some old friends, potentially meet some new ones...potentially find someone willing to give me a coveted pass into the "World's Largest Digital Photography and Lighting Conference". Yeah right.
So, I pack my bags and hit the road. Knowing I'm staying for one night and HOPING I get to stay for the week. Luckily I'm within driving distance so, why not?
So, why the photo of the front of my car? Well, I'm known to be a wreck magnet. Something ALWAYS happens to my car when I'm on the road. Well, go figure, someone in front of me hit some shredded tire debris, which slammed into the front of my car and apparently dislodging parts of my car. Bummer.
Hmmm....I hope this party is worth it!
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-36524015017616814262011-04-05T15:08:00.001-04:002011-04-06T12:13:21.563-04:00Bay Area Photography Day

After my Jacksonville Meetup I jumped in the car and headed south for a visit to my old stomping ground, Tampa Bay to participate in the Bay Area Photography Day hosted by Jim Swallows of The Packinghouse Gallery. This event brought together dozens of meetup groups from around Florida. I don't know if my friend Cheryl and I traveled the furthest but we got a resounding ovation when Jim announced our Jacksonville Meetup Group. This collaborative effort was also to introduce those who are not members of a group to the various clubs and their mission. There were various stations set up around Sunken Gardens, the venue for the day, providing tips, techniques and tutorials. For example my friend Jim Sykes discussed macro photography. And Scott Krebs discussed his lighting modifier, the Saber Strip, which he readily shared with us to try a few shots of the model.

The guest speaker at this event was none other than Rick Sammon, whose podcast, The Digital Photography Experience, has given me a TON of insight into the world of photography. I follow him on twitter and this is how I how I learned of this event down south. When I initially ran into Rick in the Gardens, prior to his presentation, he acted as if we were old friends. He immediately started to provide tips on shooting "See Eye to Eye" "Don't cut off limbs".

His presentation was awesome. He asked that we all turn off our cells. So there I am, front and center (well front) with my cell phone, making photos and TWEETING, just after he shared the importance of social networking. I didn't get in trouble, I got praised and I have a new twitter follower, Mr. Rick Sammon, @ricksammon on twitter. Follow his blog. Listen to his podcast that he does with Juan Pons and learn. They're willing to share! Send questions and email them! "We'll make you famous!"
Honestly, I'm just glad that I can say that I personally met him and consider him a newfound photography friend whom I've admired for a long time! It's an honor.
It's been a whirlwind lately.
It started with a Friday Night shoot with Andy of lightenupandshoot.com. I met him and Mikey, the faces behind the site, last year at a workshop. First time I'd ever learned Off-Camera-Flash and how to shoot in Manual Mode. He ended up blogging about the lens he was using while photographing my son. You can view that blog post here.
And here's a photo I made of Kolby using my Westcott 28" Apollo Softbox and processed in LightRoom using and on One Software's free preset. FREE! Now, I'm saving up for their Perfect Portrait Suite!
The following Saturday I participated in a Jacksonville Photography Meetup at the new Studio 3e owned by my friends Michael Chiapputo and Fran Ruchalski (Both are photographers whom I met last year with lightenupandshoot.com.).This space is HUGE! It's 5,000 square feet with, like 10 different sets and a dressing room and kitchen and and and...It's amazing. I saw it transformed from a shell to a Photographer's Playground. If you need to shoot, this place has endless opportunities!
Michael and many other organizers and assistants and models and make-up artists came together to provide a great day of boudoir shooting. Now, I may not necessarily be a boudoir shooter but am I someone who strives to learn more about lighting and photography? Yes! This was a great opportunity to keep practicing. Since I met Michael last year, he's been nothing but generous with his knowledge and even some equipment. As well as the local organizer for Help Portrait, a photography event started by Jeremy Cowart. More about Jeremy later!
I received an email from a previous client for whom I'd shot some photos for her daughter's modeling portfolio. She said her family was in town (all the way from South Africa!) and she wanted to see if I could fit in a family photo session for them. We took advantage of a teacher work-day (no school) and met at the park. It was a Chamber of Commerce day and perfect for a fun family session. I really had a great time with <strike>playing</strike> working with them and hope they enjoy their photos all the way in South Africa!

Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-89029407723719354722011-01-17T19:09:00.000-05:002011-01-17T19:09:10.890-05:00The H Family

This family belongs to one of my daughter's best friends. Son is alumni of Nease High School who is attending college in Georgia and playing on its baseball team. Home for the winter break, we were finally able to squeeze in a quick family photo shoot amongst his visits with his friends and loved ones. Now, back at school, I'm sure Mama will appreciate this sneak peek of her baby boy with the family. Though I haven't yet experienced the emotion of sending a child to college, I know that they will forever be our baby and I know she misses him terribly!

I started the day with the T family as they move on to their next adventures. I've known them for many years from when my daughter cheered at the same gym as their girls, and their youngest babysat for us. Their youngest is now in college and their older 2 are living the life in the Big Apple after having finished their collegiate studies. Being invited to document all that was special in and around their house and neighborhood, particularly to the girls, was my pleasure and I had a great time!
Following that, I headed out to see the C family again, but with special guests, the Grandparents visiting for the holiday from Atlanta! More photos of Mr. T and this time some candid moments with his Grandparents whom he absolutely adores! And I guess you can see I adore Mr. T! What a great way to spend my day...and the bonus?
I have had regular sessions with this family since they came to me a year ago (literally 1 year to the day ago!!!) on a referral. I have watched their son grow over the past year and learned so much about his personality. The first 2 times we met, he started out very apprehensive about this lady with a camera. After visiting their home and seeing him in his environment, I knew that I was going to grab that happy energy in our next session. Luckily, they called me again and I couldn't be more thrilled about bringing this soccer ball (or is it a volleyball?) to start our meeting. He immediately warmed up to me and I got to see that energetic boy full of life and wonderment in all it's true glory---and I don't think he thought I was that scary lady with the camera this time...And as you can see---he OWNED that ball!
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-57878553672074873052010-11-22T01:03:00.000-05:002010-11-22T01:03:38.672-05:00Do you recognize this family?

They're actually above, on the banner of my blog. I have done quite a few action photos and family photos for them over the past few years. I was humbled walking into their house and seeing the huge print of the banner photo above. This year, we squeezed this shoot in before the holidays, and in between cheer practice and competitions, and were lucky enough to have a perfect backdrop, their yard! GORGEOUS! I always love it when, at the 'end' of the shoot, the kids are still suggesting places to shoot and poses they want to do---a fun photo session? Yep! Thanks for the opportunity to make more photos for you!
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-86903850114872290992010-11-22T00:52:00.000-05:002010-11-22T00:52:59.204-05:00The T family

is another family I met last year during my PTO photography fundraiser I did at his school. I have had the honor of capturing some action photos of their son's action football moments and am grateful that they called me again to do their Christmas photos. I had a great time and I wanted to share a few of the moments I captured from this session with them. Their son and I ran around the playground as he suggested some locations and poses for himself while their daughter, in her beautiful Christmas dress, happily enjoyed her favorite part of the playground, the swings!
I'd also like to add that, if you have a moment, learn a little bit about spina bifida . This can impose some great physical challenges but I can tell you that the spirit of their daughter is totally inspiring.
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-28211329591361035692010-11-22T00:36:00.000-05:002010-11-22T00:36:58.226-05:00The start of a busy weekend

and I loved every minute of it! On Saturday, my son was in a flag football tournament, I helped coach one of our association's cheer squads - we're hoping for a win at Regionals Thanksgiving weekend! and then headed to my daughter's former cheer gym to shoot their family day. What a blast! Brought back great memories of when my daughter cheered for 5 years (before she retired at the ripe old age of 10). Here's one of the MANY photos I captured on their opening day. This gym is located in Jacksonville, FL and you can check them out here here.
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-1776930976464799952010-11-22T00:29:00.000-05:002010-11-22T00:29:30.533-05:00The A family SneakPeek!

She called for another session with me! Last year, I offered a photo special at my son's elementary school as a fundraiser for the PTO. This family kept my number and asked for another shoot. I had such a great time with them and catching up with their academic adventures this year since I no longer have children in elementary. I had a fantastic time! Aren't they a great looking bunch?
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-37323241181678822062010-11-19T14:04:00.000-05:002010-11-19T14:04:10.362-05:00An honor on Veterans Day

to have a session scheduled with a Naval Veteran and his family. I've known this family for about a year through our baseball club affiliation. Now I'm sure you can't tell from the photos, but their son is TALL. When I say tall, I mean REALLY tall at 6'+ in middle school! or do they? Mom called to ask about a family photo session in the park but she was concerned that the kids really don't enjoy having their photos taken. this family!!! I LOVED spending the afternoon with the W family. They just oozed love for one another. Their son is so full of spirit and just a FUN boy eager to tell me about his school adventures, hit the beach and throw the football. One thing we DEFINITELY have in common is that we can both TALK up a storm! Before I head off to the only NFL game of the year I'll probably actually attend (okay, I bailed on probably the biggest Jag win of the season vs. the Colts), thought I'd share this quick sneak peek of a beach shoot I did last week...Love this family! And, thanks to them, my son has a place to stay while we go out to play tonight!
Mrs. B called about my taking photos of her family for her Grandfather's birthday party. After a full day of shooting football, I rushed to her Mother's home to capture the memory of this special gathering.
I had such an awesome time with this family! The opportunity to join them in this beautiful property on the River, brought excitement about the potential for waterside shooting locations. Unfortunately, it was pretty windy on the river so we took to shooting in their beautiful home and in the spacious and gorgeous front yard. Grabbing every bit of light I could, I made my greatest efforts to memorialize this moment for Mrs. B and her family.
I had so much fun with them! And kudos to those especially well-mannered and ultra-patient children! I can't thank them, nor their parents enough for the opportunity to capture this special moment.
It's because I was working on helping plan my 20th high school reunion for Heidelberg American High School in Germany. Unfortunately, not all of my classmates could join us. Facebook played an integral role in helping locate classmates and get the word out about our upcoming gathering. Lucky for me, it's been a place where I've been able to reconnect with friends I have not seen nor heard from in decades. Ray is one of them. He is an active duty service member whom I'm proud to say, continues to serve our country. He was excited about the prospect of meeting up with old friends and classmates, but was unable to join us because of scheduling issues.
Lucky Me! I live in Florida where he happened to be visiting family - close enough that I was able to meet up with him. He invited me to his parent's house and I had the pleasure of spending the day with his extended family and meeting his wife and daughters. He was a special friend in school (I know, I say that about all of my classmates but it's just about the Heidelberg bond we have!) and it's such a gift to be able to revisit that time and renew our friendship, while welcoming his children and wife to the Heidelberg family.
These are a sneak peek of some of the photos I was able to capture.
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8161966037094138361.post-56874213242527458522010-05-31T13:58:00.001-04:002010-05-31T13:59:15.303-04:00Tennis Team Time and Memorial DayLet me tell you about my friend Ginny (3rd from the left)---she's amazing! She's a mom, a wife, an Officer in the Naval Reserves JAG, a school volunteer, Girl Scout Leader for two troops and the mother of one of my daughter's best friends. Oh! And in between all of that and the endless other things which fill Ginny's days, she also plays on a tennis team. She asked that I come and capture some group shots of her her team to commemorate the end of the season. These brightly dressed ladies practice and play matches several times throughout the week and in this crazy Florida heat! How about those great, bright tennis tops?
In addition to sharing my experiences and my day-to-day life on my blog, I will also be providing a page for photographers looking to learn more. As some of you know, I'm self-taught with a love for the craft but I didn't learn it without some great sites and mentors out there. I hope to help out more people who want learn more about their camera and get it out of the automatic modes. It's not as scary as it seems!
So, look for changes coming up slowly but surely!
Visit www.snapshotartistry.com for more information!
They call me Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08988744800892499503noreply@blogger.com0
